Understanding Hair Loss

Why Hair Loss Occurs

Hair loss (alopecia) affects both men and women and has multiple causes including genetics, hormonal changes, autoimmune conditions, and aging. Androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness) is the most common type, caused by the hormone DHT gradually miniaturizing hair follicles. Over time, follicles produce thinner, shorter hairs until they stop producing visible hair altogether.

Types of Hair Loss

Hair follicle stem cells persist even in miniaturized follicles. Stem cell therapy reactivates these dormant follicular stem cells, promoting the regrowth of thicker, healthier hair from existing follicles.

  • Androgenetic Alopecia — Genetic pattern baldness affecting the hairline and crown in men, and diffuse thinning in women.
  • Alopecia Areata — Autoimmune condition causing patchy hair loss on the scalp and body.
  • Telogen Effluvium — Temporary diffuse hair shedding triggered by stress, illness, or hormonal changes.
  • Scarring Alopecia — Inflammatory conditions that destroy hair follicles and replace them with scar tissue.

How Stem Cell Therapy Helps

Follicular Regeneration

MSCs injected into the scalp release growth factors including VEGF , PDGF , and IGF-1 that stimulate hair follicle stem cells, promote angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation) to improve scalp blood supply, reduce inflammation around hair follicles, and extend the growth phase (anagen) of the hair cycle. This results in thicker, stronger hair growth from existing follicles. A controlled clinical study showed that MSC-derived growth factor injection increased hair density by an average of 29% and hair thickness by 21% at 6-month follow-up.

Treatment at StemCell Longevita

Our Hair Restoration Protocol

We combine scalp MSC injections with exosome therapy and PRP to create a comprehensive hair restoration approach. Multiple micro-injections are administered across the scalp using a fine-needle technique with topical anesthesia. The treatment is virtually painless and requires no downtime.

Treatment Process

  • Day 1 — Scalp assessment, hair density mapping, and treatment planning at Liv Hospital Ulus.
  • Day 2 — Scalp stem cell and exosome injection treatment under topical anesthesia.
  • Day 3 — Optional second session for extensive hair loss, follow-up care instructions.

Chapter 4

Results & Recovery

Hair Growth Timeline

  • Initial shedding of weak hairs may occur in the first 2 to 4 weeks — this is normal and expected as follicles reset. New hair growth becomes visible at 2 to 3 months. Significant improvements in density and thickness are typically apparent at 4 to 6 months, with continued improvement up to 12 months.

Is This Right for You?

Stem cell therapy works best for patients with thinning hair where follicles are still present (even if dormant). It is less effective for completely bald areas where follicles have been permanently destroyed. Contact us with photos of your hair loss for a free assessment and personalized treatment plan.

Frequently asked questions

Most patients notice new hair growth starting at 2 to 3 months, with significant improvement at 4 to 6 months. Full results are typically achieved at 9 to 12 months after treatment.

They serve different purposes and can complement each other. Stem cell therapy strengthens and regrows existing thinning hair, while transplants relocate hair follicles to bald areas. Stem cell therapy can improve transplant results when used together.

Results can last 1 to 2 years. Since the underlying genetic predisposition remains, maintenance treatments every 12 to 18 months are recommended to sustain and enhance results.

Absolutely. Female pattern hair loss and other types of alopecia in women respond well to stem cell therapy. Our protocol is effective for both male and female hair loss.
