Understanding the Condition

What is Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of permanent movement disorders caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain, most often occurring before birth. It affects approximately 1 in 345 children worldwide, making it the most common motor disability in childhood.

While conventional therapies focus on managing symptoms through physical therapy and medication, stem cell therapy targets the underlying brain injury by promoting neural repair, reducing neuroinflammation, and supporting the formation of new neural connections that can improve motor function.

At StemCell Longevita, we have treated over 500 children with cerebral palsy using our specialized MSC protocols, with 75% of families reporting meaningful improvements in motor function, speech, and cognitive abilities.

Ideal Candidates

  • Children diagnosed with any type of cerebral palsy
  • Children with spastic diplegia, hemiplegia, or quadriplegia
  • Those with developmental delays related to brain injury
  • Children who have plateaued with conventional therapies
  • Families seeking complementary approaches to standard CP care
Key Benefits

How Stem Cell Therapy Helps Cerebral Palsy

Motor Function Improvement

MSCs promote neural repair and plasticity, helping children achieve new motor milestones including improved walking, fine motor skills, and coordination.

Spasticity Reduction

Stem cell therapy helps reduce muscle stiffness and spasticity, improving range of motion and making daily activities and physical therapy more effective.

Speech & Communication

Many children experience improvements in speech clarity, language comprehension, and communication abilities as neural pathways are repaired and strengthened.

Cognitive Enhancement

MSCs support cognitive development by promoting neurogenesis and synaptic connections, with many children showing improved attention, learning, and social interaction.

Understanding the regenerative approach for cerebral palsy

Cerebral palsy has different causes and functional presentations. A paediatric review considers developmental history, imaging, current therapies, and family goals before any regenerative approach is discussed.

This page is for information and does not replace advice from your usual specialist. Eligibility, delivery route, and follow-up are determined only after an individual medical review.

Who may be considered?

Candidacy is assessed individually from the child's diagnosis, functional presentation, medical history, imaging, and current rehabilitation plan:

  • Children with a confirmed cerebral palsy diagnosis and current paediatric records
  • Families able to share relevant imaging, therapy reports, and medication history
  • Children whose travel and procedure risks can be assessed safely
  • Families seeking an additional discussion alongside established rehabilitation and paediatric care

How the clinical pathway is planned

The recommended plan is individualised after records are reviewed; it is not a fixed, one-size-fits-all treatment package.

  1. 1

    Remote medical-record review

The team reviews diagnosis, history, imaging or test results, current medication, and the goals you want to discuss.

  2. 2

    Clinical suitability assessment

A clinician considers whether a regenerative approach can be discussed safely, including the delivery route and the need for any further testing.

  3. 3

    Written plan before travel

If appropriate, you receive a written outline of the proposed approach, expected visit schedule, exclusions, and coordination arrangements.

  4. 4

    In-person confirmation and follow-up

The plan is reconfirmed after an in-person assessment in Istanbul, with remote follow-up arranged after the visit.

What the approach is intended to address

Regenerative approaches for cerebral palsy are an area of continuing research. They should be assessed in the context of established rehabilitation, paediatric neurology, and realistic functional goals.

Evidence and outcomes vary by diagnosis, disease stage, delivery approach, and the individual. The consultation is the place to discuss what is known, what remains uncertain, and whether an approach is appropriate for you.

Expected timeline and follow-up

Following treatment, improvements emerge progressively as neural connections strengthen, continuing for 6-12 months:

  1. 1

    Early improvements (1-3 months)

Parents commonly report improved muscle tone and reduced spasticity, better motor control and coordination, and early gains in feeding and swallowing.

  2. 2

    Speech & cognition

Enhanced speech and communication and improved cognitive function and learning develop as neural pathways are repaired and strengthened.

  3. 3

    Continued development (6-12 months)

Results continue to develop for 6-12 months, with improved overall independence. Follow-up treatments are recommended every 6-12 months.

When treatment may not be appropriate

While MSC therapy is safe for most patients, certain conditions may be contraindications. Treatment is not suitable in the following situations:

  • Active cancer or ongoing chemotherapy/radiation treatment
  • Active systemic infections requiring IV antibiotics
  • Severe organ failure (end-stage kidney, liver, or heart failure)
  • Pregnancy or planned pregnancy within 3 months
  • Known allergy to any component used in cell processing
  • Uncontrolled seizures

Our medical team conducts a thorough screening process to identify any contraindications before treatment. If stem cell therapy is not appropriate for your situation, we will advise you honestly.

Questions to discuss before deciding

Children as young as 1 year old can receive MSC therapy. Earlier intervention often yields better results due to higher brain plasticity in young children. We have treated children from ages 1-18 with positive outcomes across all age groups.

Among our 500+ treated CP patients, 75% of families report meaningful improvements. Common gains include better head control, improved sitting and standing ability, reduced spasticity, clearer speech, and enhanced cognitive engagement. Results typically become apparent within 1-3 months.

Most children receive an initial treatment of 2-3 sessions over 5-7 days. Based on response, follow-up treatments are recommended at 6-12 month intervals. Many families return for 2-3 treatment courses over several years, with cumulative benefits at each round.
